Essential oils are the #1 healing tool in my home.  As an acupuncturist, wife, and mom of a two-year old, self-care in all aspects of my life are important.  Everyday, I experience the therapeutic effects of these oils and oil-based products and I gained an understanding of the impact they have in the treatment room and as at-home tools for my patients.

What are Essential Oils?

Essential oils are naturally occurring, volatile aromatic compounds found in plants. Similar to herbal medicine, the essential oils have various healing properties. When applied to the body, essential oils:

  • Regulate hormones
  • Alleviate pain and stiffness
  • Reduce allergic response
  • Heal mitochondrial dysfunction
  • Repair cellular function
  • Minimize systemic inflammation

As a bonus, the inhalation of essential oils has a direct impact on our brain’s limbic system which handles emotions and memory. The most powerful healing is achieved by addressing the physical, mental and emotional.  Essential oil application deepens healing at all three levels.

Essential Oil Acupuncture

Essential Oil Acupuncture is the practice of placing oils on specific acupuncture points or areas of the body to stimulate therapeutic effect. Applied correctly, it can have the desired effect of using both a needle and an herbal remedy. At Acupuncture by Devon, we use a combination of needles and essential oils to increase healing time and supplement when herbal medicine is allowed (e.g. IVF therapy and cancer treatments).  We use only Certified Pure and Therapeutic Grade© oils from doTerra to ensure safety of our patients and purity and potency of the product.

Quicker Results

Achieving your healthcare goals is an everyday commitment. Regular acupuncture and appropriate supplements are key components of this wellness plan, however essential oils provide the added benefit of allowing the patient to apply “mini” treatments to themselves at home yielding quicker results.  Patients have also reduced costs and time commitment scheduling weekly appointments by applying using specific oils and oil-based products with professional oversight.
