The wind is whipping and the rain is pouring in San Diego today. We are in store for a wet winter which means until Spring, my office will be packed with runny noses, coughs and compromised immune systems. Make sure to stay dry, eat your vegetable soups and of course, get your acupuncture treatments. Until I see you in the office, here are a quick and easy remedies to combat coughs and colds.
Cold
Prepare a hot cup of water, add a stick of cinnamon, two sliced of fresh ginger, a slice of lemon and a teaspoon of honey. Drink 2-3 times per day until you feel better.
Sore Throat
Take a juicy pear (Asian or Bosch), slice into quarters and steam until “sweaty”. Add cinnamon and enjoy! This concoction will alleviate pain in the throat, activate salivary glands and improves lung health.
Cough
For a dry cough, take a handful of fresh thyme and steep in a glass of pure hot water for 15 minutes. Add a teaspoon of honey. Drink 2-3 times a day especially before bed for a restful night sleep. You can also see this website to know how to get pure and clean water through installation of water treatment.
A wet or productive cough can be treated with boiling cup of water infused with fresh thyme and sage. Also, boil 2 cups of water in a pot and add 4 drops of tea tree essential oil. Place your head over the steam for 15 minutes to break up mucus and phlegm in the lungs.
Hope you find these tips helpful. May your families stay happy and helpful!
